Obama Democrats seeking to freeze bank accounts of members of the coup regime Honduran Wife
A group of fifteen Democrats Barack Obama asked the president to freeze the accounts of members of the coup in Honduras and prohibiting them from entering the United States, in a letter released today.
"We ask that you instruct the Treasury Department to freeze the bank accounts and assets of individuals involved in the coup, and denied entry to U.S.," said the letter, signed by fifteen members of Obama Democratic Party in the House of Representatives.
Lawmakers greeted the measures already implemented by the Obama administration, who canceled military aid to the de facto regime and revoked visas five of its diplomatic staff.
"It is clear that further measures are needed to ensure that democracy is restored and respected civil rights" of Honduras, said the letter dated August 7, noting that "the human rights situation in Honduras growing concern. "
Obama reiterated yesterday in a visit to Mexico for its rejection of the coup of 28 June and his desire to restore the democratic order with the return to power of ousted Manuel Zelaya.
Washington supports the plan proposed by President Oscar Arias to address the crisis in Honduras, which provides for the return to power of Zelaya, a political amnesty and the advance of elections scheduled for November.
